Letter 1: Welcome to The Paper Trail

Hi Friend,

I'm Katie, the person behind Paper Moon Consulting. This is the first time I've written to you directly like this, and it felt like the right way to start something new.

Every year, my New Year's resolution is the same: send more postcards to the people I love. There's something about getting mail that isn't a bill, that's just someone thinking of you, that feels rare and a little magic as an adult. I think I have an old soul in that way. I like things that are tangible, thoughtful, a little slower. In a world of two-second clips and content that disappears as fast as it shows up, I wanted to try something different here. So consider this my postcard to you. This is The Paper Trail, a letter from me, every couple of weeks, about the real stuff behind Paper Moon Consulting.

The name isn't only a nod to Paper Moon. A paper trail is a record. It's proof that something happened, that the work got done, that a process was followed. So every time I write, I'm leaving a bit of a trail, thoughts, stories, things I've learned, so you can actually get to know who's behind this business. And more than that, I want this to go both ways. Slowing down and actually reading and responding to each other feels like one of the only real ways left to connect virtually. So let's correspond. Write back if something in here resonates.

Here's the thing though: this isn't just a personal preference of mine. I genuinely believe real connection is the cornerstone of good business. Being personable isn't some soft extra on top of doing good work, it's the foundation clients actually trust. Because the truth is, you're not hiring Paper Moon. You're hiring me, Katie. Whatever this business becomes, it's still just going to be me on the other end of that phone call, that email, that project. So it matters to me that you actually know who that is.

I've built a career across industries that don't really seem to go together. Hospitality, learning and development, advertising, and now consulting. I know I'm a young woman, and I know that can sometimes make people wonder what qualifies me to speak on any of this. But my consulting business is actually a little piece of every single one of those industries, all wrapped into one, which makes me something like a Swiss Army knife. In almost every job I've had, I was the person people brought their problems to, and more often than not, I was the one who ended up building the system that fixed it, whether that was a team that didn't exist yet, a process that needed structure, or a staffing problem nobody could crack. That's the thread that runs through all of it, I've seen what makes a project fall apart, and I've seen what makes it come together.

That said, I'm never going to tell you I have all the answers, because I don't. Most of what I do is a give and take, we get to the answer together, based on what I hear from you. I want to share what I know, and I want to learn what you know too. As small business owners and community members, sharing is really what helps all of us. So think of this as getting to see a little bit of my brain, no financial commitment required.
